Andrea and Todd

Andrea and Todd had a wonderful wedding, calm, romantic and full of joy! We had a great time photographing this wedding, it was full of emotion and love, but without any chaos. Their kids were fun to photograph too! The always outdoes itself, with their staff, Jennifer is fantastic, their food, and their attention to detail!!

Yale Doorway

The architecture at Yale makes for some awesome photography; it also lends itself to HDR. This image of the doorway was created from five exposures and then merged with Photomatix. I love the arches and the texture and color of the door.

Baby Green Herons at Anhinga Trail

I am always on the lookout for Green Herons when we go out photographing. I was in for a real treat when I saw the parent bring in fish to these two Baby Green Herons (on the Anhinga Trail in the Everglades). I spent hours watching and photographing these little guys...

Great Blue Herons, Courting, Mating, Nesting

These two great blue herons were getting ready for the breeding season. The male would bring in a stick and together they would figure out how to place it. He just kept bringing in stick after stick. Every few trips the male would mate with the female. The evening light and the pastel clouds against the blue sky really made the perfect background for this photograph.

Great Blue Heron

This Great Blue Heron was at the top of the island trying to attract a mate to his well built nest. Watching the breeding behavior was fascinating. He would clack his bill and raise his hear and neck and was trying to hard to appear "attractive" and dominant. You can see the bits of feathers in the air around him from his antics.

Great Blue Heron, Artistic rendition

I took hundreds of photographs of this Great Blue Heron at Wakodahatchee. The lighting and the blue pastel sky near sunset just urged me to process one artistically. I love the way the wind was blowing his feathers and plume.

Black Necked Stilt

There was a good variety of birds at Wakodahatchee this year, including, for the first time ever, breeding wood storks. What a contrast between those bird birds and these little delicate black necked stilts. I love the one leg up and the reflection.

Cormorant, breeding season

The colors of the birds can change so dramatically when it is breeding season. I made sure to capture the eyes and position the head against a blurred background when photographing this Cormorant on the Anhinga Trail in Florida. They are very habituated towards humans and will sit right on the railing for you to photograph them!

Especially fun in the winter, a flower from the grocery store, RainX, water, dollar store spray bottle...

Tulip

Tulip, window light plus one flash for fill light, black background. Tom brought me home a planter of tulips from the grocery store. This one really cried out to me to take its photo!

Backyard Birds -- Winter

Two birds that I photographed in my backyard during a snowstorm. I opened the window in the downstairs bathroom and shot out the window, putting a few towels down to absorb all the snow that was coming into the window.

Cairnwood

We went to Cairnwood with Denise Ippolito. If you ever have a chance to see her present a program or go on one of her photo workshops or photo tours I definitely recommend her! She has a lot of energy, creativity, insight, talent and knowledge and is willing to share it with you!

Immediately upon entering the estate I was entranced by the stairs, others rushed off to photograph the rooms upstairs, but I stayed with the stairs for a long while.

This photograph was taken during the holidays with five exposures, perhaps I could have taken seven to get more detail in the highlights, but I do not mind my HDRs with some shadows blocked or some highlights blown out. I just love the way the light reflects off the ceilings and walls. Imagine living here!

Old Bus

Another HDR photograph using Photomatix for processing three exposures. I also applied the vignette using a Lightroom preset.

Linley HDR at the Graffiti bus

This was an awesome shoot with some fantastic models! Roman set up a HDR photo session at the CT trolley museum and I asked if we could bring along some models (love the juxtaposition of the beauty of the models against the gritty HDR trains and such!). HDR with people can be difficult, sometimes you have to adjust the color of the face to avoid that "oopma loompa" look and sometimes the person moves slightly (I was on a tripod, but she moved slightly) so I masked her face back in and viola! Her outfit was perfect, almost like she bought it special for this shoot! Linley was one awesome to work with too!

Old Truck

Photographing old subjects makes for interesting detail. With the recent popularity  of HDR (high dynamic range) photography has made subjects like this even more appealing. Three images taken in camera, +2, 0, -2 and then merged and tone mapped with Photomatix and finished with Topaz.

I tried two versions of this truck, one color and one black and white...

Night Sky

This was my first attempt at the night sky. I took an awesome nighttime workshop with Mark Bowie thru the Adirondack Photography Institute and he led us to a pond and we photographed from 9-12 midnight.

I got lucky and had my camera pointed towards the north star and got the beginnings of some star trails in this 10 minute exposure.

Blue hour before sunrise

This image was taken in the hours before sunrise, the blue hour. The water was so still, the warm colors of the boat house contrasting against the cool colors of the water, the fog and the dock leading to the boat house just seemed perfect to me. I am not a morning person, but finding and capturing scenes like this makes getting up early worthwhile. This was taken on Mirror Lake in Lake Placid.

Deer

This deer picture was very simple, and I cut the feet off, so I decided to create something artistic from it...to me it looks like a deer from a Disney movie, you know where the birds are signing around its head...

Insect, Holding on!

I was supposed to be taking landscape photographs but the sunrise was a bust and the sky was white -- then I happened along this little fellow and loved the way his legs were wrapped around the plant!

Abandoned Barn in the Adirondacks

I have been taking photographs of this Abandoned Barn in the Adirondacks for decades. Everuy time it is different -- it changes all the time: the barn, the field, the lighting, me.

Scotland one year old

Oh, what a cutie! You can see both of her parents in this beautiful little girl. We photographed Kathy and Scott before they were married, their wedding, their maternity, and their beautiful Scotland since she was just less than two weeks old. We love having her (and her parents come into the studio!). This one year old session, as part of the "Grow with Me package" comes with a wonderful "Grow with me" composite for her parents to hang on their wall.

I just LOVE this image showing Scotland walking with her parents. Children go up so fast and this pose will be something they can look back on later and lament how fast the time flies by...
