So You Want to be a MODEL
So You Want to be a MODEL...
Perhaps you have always wanted to be a model, perhaps your friends or family tells you that you would make a good model -- what is the next step?
1. Practice. Practice. Practice. Practice some more. We tell our models to spend five minutes three times a day practicing, just like a sport or an instrument you must practice.
2. Create your portfolio. Your portfolio. In print and online, the images in your portfolio should be professional, show variety and be awesome! You should have a variety of pictures that make you look absolutely awesome. We have special model photo sessions. Whether you need a simple updated headshot or a whole portfolio -- we can you creat this! We have six different model photo session packages available to help you build your portfolio! Do not put self portraits taken with your cell phone! This makes you look unprofessional and not serious about your career.
3. What is a comp card? A comp card is a model's "business card". It usually contains 3-5 photographs, your contact information and your size information.
About Practicng...
We always tell our models to spend five minutes three times a day practicing, just like a sport or an instrument you must practice.
1. One five minute practice session spent on posing your hands, position your mirror so that you cannot see your face, just your hands, pose them gracefully, avoid the "punched in the face" pose, try expressing emotions via your hands, try to convey emotion via your hands without seeing your facial expression.
2. The second five minutes later in the day is for facial expressions, how many can you do? Practice!
3. The third practice session at a different time if full body posing, and we suggest that sometimes you try this naked, even if you will never pose naked! This is the reason behind it -- being naked takes away the pockets and such that you can use as props and crutches -- and makes you pose your arms and hands differently. It pays to practice!!
Here are just a few of the many expressions captured, this series was with one outfit and background -- take a look in any fashion magazine and you will see how many expressions are needed.
Need fodder for your expressions? Start by thinking of the seven dwarves and move on from there.
As you create your portfolio make sure that you have a variety of outfits and backgrounds, not just one outfit with one background.
